Lunar New Year

Jewel-Osco is ringing in the Lunar New Year with food and drink tastings, lion dance performances, live music and more!

Challenge

As Lunar New Year is an important holiday to the Chinese community, Jewel-Osco wanted to show not only that they value this community, but that shoppers can come to the store as a one-stop shop to celebrate their joyous occasion!

Solution

To connect with the Chinese community in Chicago, we created a program at Jewel-Osco to ring in the New Year. This included in-store product highlights, custom bottle engravings in Mandarin, live traditional Chinese music, children’s activities, bringing in community partners such as local libraries, and traditional welcome giveaways! Due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, we hosted these events virtually via Zoom!

Results

When we looked at the weekly trend in sales for one of the participating stores, we found that sales for the day were up 5% vs the previous four weeks average, which is impressive! Between the ads, in-store flyers, social media and other digital shoutouts we had a reach of more than 3.7 million for our virtual events!
